So it turns out that shooting that went down in Buda on May 17th isn't some isolated South Austin suburb incident — investigators are now connecting it to a whole series of shootings that have been rattling the greater Austin area.
Buda PD dropped that connection this week, which honestly changes the picture pretty significantly. What might've looked like a one-off situation is now part of a bigger, uglier pattern that law enforcement has been tracking across multiple jurisdictions.
For folks living in the suburbs south of Austin — Buda, Kyle, that whole corridor — this is the kind of news that hits different. These communities have been growing like crazy over the past few years, and with that growth comes the uncomfortable reality that big-city problems don't stay neatly inside city limits.
Austin PD and Buda PD are now presumably working together on this, which is the right call. When you've got a string of shootings potentially linked to the same individuals or group, you really need everybody at the table comparing notes rather than working in silos.
Details are still pretty thin at this point — investigators are keeping a lot close to the vest, which is standard when an active investigation is ongoing. But the fact that they're publicly acknowledging the connection suggests they're either close to something or want the community to stay alert.
If you live anywhere in the Austin metro, this is worth keeping an eye on. We'll update as more details come out from both departments.
